Goodfight for 3sixteen's 20th
"Our 20th anniversary celebration continues this fall with what feels like a long-overdue project with our friends at Los Angeles-based brand Goodfight. Our history with the company and its brand director, Caleb Lin, stretches all the way back to 2005. Johan was college roommates with Caleb’s close friend (👋 Mike) and brought Caleb onboard as one of 3sixteen’s earliest interns. Alongside running 3sixteen’s west coast operations, Johan was buying for a streetwear store on Pico called El Mercado where he got Caleb a job as a sales associate. Caleb worked in the shop throughout his internship at 3sixteen and accompanied us to trade shows in Las Vegas (where, one year, he literally gave the shoes on his feet to someone at a gas station in need).
We’ve had a front row seat as Caleb’s career in fashion blossomed over the years - moving from a sales associate at Opening Ceremony to a buyer at American Rag Cie, before departing to found Goodfight in 2017 with his wife and brand CEO, Christina Chou, and their partners Calvin Nguyen (designer) and Julia Chu (creative director). We were there when Caleb was doodling in a notebook about Goodfight as a concept, and we were there at the first seasonal presentation in NYC in a Chinatown loft space. As self-proclaimed “shop kids” who met working in retail and spent years of their career building worlds for others, Goodfight represents the truest version of themselves and we’re really all better off for it. We’ve been rooting for their success over the years and are proud of everything they’ve already accomplished.
The Goodfight Grocery Getter Short is a 3sixteen internal favorite ever since it launched in 2019; in a world where athletic shorts are a dime a dozen, we found that the quality of materials, construction and thoughtful details set Goodfight's shorts above the rest. In short, it’s a super-luxe mesh basketball short that’s loaded with details, including fatigue-style baker pockets, internal coin/phone pockets, and side key loops. What really brings the shorts to another level is the super-fine “cooling mesh” lining that feels extra comfortable against the skin. We approached the Goodfight team to see if they would be willing to work with us on a special edition “Shadow” Grocery Getter short to help celxbrate two decades in business and they happily obliged. We applied the color blocking pattern that we’ve used on fatigue pants in the past with navy and black mesh materials - which mirror the warp and weft yarn colors on our 120x denim. The shorts are available in their traditional length and the “mini” version (4-5” inseam depending on size).
If you’re in Los Angeles, please join us for a release party at the Goodfight flagship store on Friday evening, with drinks provided by Homage Brewing. If you’re not local to us here in LA, the shorts will release in store and online on Saturday, Sept. 9th at Noon EST."
